‘IN THE SUMMER TIME WHEN THE WEATHER IS FINE’……

Hi Guys.

What a fantastic day Ive had in my tunnels today.  This is such a busy and exciting time of year. Still sowing, growing and harvesting so many vegetables.  I cant believe how lucky ive been with my veg this year (not that I’ve had an unlucky year!) but this year I’ve a bumper crop of EVERYTHING, and most of my veg has been trouble free.  The tomatoes and the salad are the only fruit/veg that I have had problems with this year, tomatoes with botrytis and my lettuce and a few cabbages with the white cabbage moth/butterfly.  I have never seen so many caterpillars as I have had this year, maybe its something to do with the warm weather we experienced a few weeks ago.

Anyway I have been getting bumper crops now for a good few weeks which really gives you that real ‘feel good factor’. Today  I  made up some great veggie boxes for some very lucky peeps.  They were all delighted with their goodies 🙂

Along with the harvesting today I managed to sow a few seeds for overwintering vegetables.  I have sown lettuce, radish, pak choi and spinach today.  Also potted on some of the cauliflowers and brussel sprouts into new pots as I have no room in the tunnels yet and don’t want them to get pot bound.

Lots more potting on and sowing to do tomorrow………Oh and lots of weeding 😦

    We are thinking of upgrading my greenhouse to maybe something 6ft hight x 8ft.

    Any recommendations?

    I only have a semi D as you know so small yet beautiful xx

    1. Hi Rose. I would highly recommend a company called first tunnels http://www.firsttunnels.co.uk/PolyTunnels. This is the company that I bought my tunnels off of and they are so good and the quality of the tunnels is superb! They start at the 6ft wide by 8ft high and I think they are far better than the old fashioned glass houses. Check out their web page which is so good.

    1. I bought these courgette seeds in a little flower shop when on holiday in Florence. They are so prolific and grow massive in every way….The are similar to a pumpkin in leaf size and have taken over a very large area of the poly tunnel. Love them but will grow up a trellis next year.     1. Hi Judy. I grow a lot of tomato plants….150 this year, all shapes and sizes. I always find that Tamina are great with very heavy yields (medium size tomato), also borghese (a medium size plum). I also grow santini which are from seeds from a tomato I bought in a famous supermarket (hint….not any old supermarket!!) I have been growing them for 3 years, they are a small plum tomato with very heavy yields and last longer than most tomatoes after picking. Tomato Berry is a new one for me this year but again, great heart shaped cherry tom with high yields. Good Luck. Thank you for following and Happy Gardening Eve

    1. Thank you. I’m even impressed with my corn this year. I have been growing sweet corn for a few years but always with very little success so delighted with this years crop. I planted in succession and have another 20 or sow just started to show their ears!!

  10. What great looking veggies. And Wow! wonderful corn. I tried corn two years. First year the birds attacked the flowers, even through a net. Only picked about 5. Second year most of the corn had ergot. Read this stays in the soil for years so haven’t tried corn again.
    I envy your success. Congratulations!
